Medicine and health sciences
Medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine and pharmacy run as English-taught programmes open to international students. Entry is competitive and places are limited, so planning has to start early.
An honest description of the country: what it does well, where its limits are, and who it suits.
Overview
Lithuania is one of the Baltic states and a member of the European Union and the Schengen area. Its population is roughly the size of a large Turkish district, so everything is more compact: small cities, short distances, few institutions.
For a student that has practical consequences. Bureaucracy is concentrated in a handful of institutions, transport is simple, and campuses sit inside the city. On the other hand, someone used to the pace of a large Turkish city may find life quiet; winter days are short and cold. It's better to know that before you come.
In short
The picture in brief, for a student coming from Türkiye to Lithuania:
Strong fields
Medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine and pharmacy run as English-taught programmes open to international students. Entry is competitive and places are limited, so planning has to start early.
Software, data, electronics and mechanical engineering are strong, and the density of tech and fintech companies helps on the internship side.
English-taught business, finance and economics programmes are widely available, with notably international cohorts.
Programmes focused on EU law and international relations. Practising law in Türkiye afterwards is a separate question of recognition.
English-taught options in psychology, communication and the social sciences.
Concentrated in Klaipėda because of the port, covering maritime engineering and marine science.
Why Lithuania
Lithuania deserves an honest description: it isn't the right choice for every student, but for a particular profile it makes real sense.
Lithuania is part of the EU and the Schengen area, so your studies sit within a European framework.
Many bachelor's and master's programmes are taught in English; Lithuanian is not a requirement for them.
Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda are close together, and city transport is manageable on a student budget.
A developed IT, engineering and fintech scene, which matters for internships.
Established, internationally open programmes in medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine.
Multinational campuses, and English is widely spoken in everyday student life.
Degrees are issued within the Bologna framework. Recognition in Türkiye is a separate process and should be checked before applying.
Direct flights from Vilnius to many European cities make travel between terms straightforward.
Admission requirements, tuition fees and residence requirements vary by university and by programme. We open the official page of the programme you're interested in and confirm the current requirements together, so you end up with a verified picture.
Cities
The capital and the largest student centre, with the widest choice of universities and the most work and internship opportunities. The old town is walkable.
The second city and a serious university town, weighted towards technical and health fields. Living costs are usually below the capital.
The port city on the Baltic coast. Maritime and marine sciences are here; the city is smaller and quieter.
Tuition, living costs and application dates change by school and by year. In our consultation we open the official page of the programme you're interested in and take the current figures straight from there.
Let's go through your profile and map out the options that get you closest to your goal.
