Admission requirements for international students in Lithuania
Every Lithuanian university sets its own rules. This page collects the rules we checked on official pages on 31 October 2026. They change each year, so always confirm on the university’s own admission page before you pay any fee. We are not a university and cannot decide your admission.
What almost every university asks for
- Secondary school diploma and transcript with final grades
- English proficiency (usually B2; some universities run their own online test)
- Passport copy, valid for the whole application period and beyond
- Motivation letter. Some universities check authenticity with software, so write it yourself
- Colour scans of documents, with no cropped corners
- Legalised or apostilled documents where required, and translations where needed

Keeping your residence permit after you arrive
To extend a student residence permit you need at least 40 ECTS credits from the last academic year. Attendance and credits are monitored. In 2025 the Migration Department reported cancelling hundreds of study residence permits for students who stopped studying (LRT, September 2025). If you plan to study, this will not affect you. If you plan something else, do not apply.
How long it takes
Residence permit processing can take up to four months. Plan the timeline backwards from September: documents in February, admission in May, permit application in June.
Checklist before you pay anyone
- Is my last qualification inside the age limit?
- Do my grades meet the minimum?
- Is my diploma attested or apostilled the way this country requires?
- Do I have English proof or will I take the university test?
- Can I afford the first-year tuition plus living costs?
Send your details and we tell you honestly if it does not work. We do not guarantee admission, visas or residence permits.
